Hello, Oakdale! Despite the scorching hell-on-earth weather upon us, it feels really cool to be back. I mean it! As an upcoming senior at LSU, I can recall almost four years ago, packing up my things, and taking off to the city of Baton Rouge. Apart from a heavy-heart after saying goodbye to my family, and feeling every shade of nervousness, I felt mostly free.

I was restless and beyond ready to leave this small town behind in exchange for a bigger and brighter city. But what I did not expect to feel for Oakdale, after only a few weeks in my new home, was a craving. Yes, craving - the same feeling one may experience for that double-chocolate cupcake your mother just made (even though your hard core diet's one week anniversary just so happens to be tomorrow.)

You see, Oakdale is my sweet, double-chocolate cupcake. There is just nothing quite like it.

When I come home, I feel a certain comfort, a simple happiness like no other. From climbing trees in Fuller's walking park, to walking to Buy U for poboys and cokes, Oakdale is my home and I will forever take pride in that.

I have decided to move home for the summer, and was lucky enough to land an internship with the Oakdale Journal. I wish to not only strengthen my writing skills and gain experience, but I also hope to make some type of difference in the Oak-dale community. As an Oakdale native, I know there is much to be said and many stories to be told. I believe in the power of words: their uncanny ability to shed light on the truth-the truth that needs to be revealed in all aspects in our community. I believe in word's ability to inspire people and if needed, change their perspective. It is because of this, that I decided four years ago to pursue a degree in English. From discovering the ways of journalism, to learning about the people of Oakdale, I am excited to see what this experience will entail.

I look forward to hearing your stories, and I hope you have enjoyed mine. Happy Summer!
